I decided to have a go at painting figures and found a book by a guy called Mel Stabin who 'for me' was easily identifiable as an American artist due to the style and colours he employs. This was a copy of one of his examples

Variation On Friars Crag

This is a scene painted with Friars Crag in mind yet the distant hills are not accurate reproductions of the scene. I guess thats why it's an impression.

Pin Mill Monochrome

Hi there

I have just returned from a painting holiday with a fellow artist who thought this ink monochrome sketch of mine drawn at Pin Mill Suffolk was quite good. I certainly think it was better than some other attempts at plein air painting I tried ;-)

This is a painting of the River Douglas recently sold at the Spring Exhibition of the Pendle Artists which was held at the ACE centre Nelson Lancashire.

It was produced from sketches drawn some time ago and brought to life as a loose watercolour only a few months ago. It is always a huge compliment and encouragement when someone buys your painting.

Not painted anything for a while but inspired seeing a picture from my collection of photographs of boats and mountains I produced this simple little watercolour on the back of a failed one !

Summerseat Post Office

Today I started and finished a painting of a subject I agreed to have a try at for a customer of the Hamers Arms Summerseat who had seen one of my paintings that is on display there. It features the small Post Office in India Street Summerseat which unfortunately is now closed but was very well run and appreciated by a local character called George who now resides next door. I do hope she likes it !

Hi I spent a day painting and chatting with my friend Trevor Lingard and produced two rubbish (gloupers) but he did encourage me to paint more often so I did these two over the next two days which I quite like and made me forget the gloupers. The top one has John Yardley type Boats and Edward Wesson type houses and the rest is all my own work :-)

Ceret South of France

These are watercolours painted from photographs I took while on holiday last year in the delightful town of Ceret where many famous artists including Piccaso worked. I was trying to create the atmosphere of the dark street cafe culture caused by high close buildings and the high canopy of trees.
